Coriander grows in fallow fields and in winter crops on heavy soils. It is also grown in spices gardens.
Desription:
 
Coriander is an annual herb from the Umbelliferae family. Its stem standing erect, its lower leaves are pinnate and have rounded lobes, the lobes of the upper leaves have linear figure. 
The blossoms are arranged in 3 to 5 twigs which carry small umbel flowers, their color is pinkish white. In the Israeli and Arab folk medicine coriander is used primarily to relieve flatulence, inflammation of the teeth and mouth, heartburn, vomiting, dizziness, headaches, eye infections, and it is recommended for mothers during breast-feeding and in the months before birth. 
 

 

For vomiting and against nausea:
Coriander decoction: boil 5 tablespoons of coriander seeds in a liter of water for 20 min. Sweeten with honey, let it cool down and drink.
The decoction can also be helpful in cases of flatulence, inflammation of the teeth and mouth, heartburn, dizziness, headaches, eye infections, and for mothers during breast-feeding. 
Another way is to crush a handful of leaves in a food processor. Mix it with half a liter of water and lemon juice from two lemons and drink two cups a day. 
 
All the parts of coriander are eatable. The leaves are used in salads and soups and as one of the ingredients in the Yemeni food that called 'sshug'. In the Far East, Coriander is an important ingredient of the curry preparation. The seeds are used to flavor bread, cakes, beer, sausage, zucchini preserves, small onions and cucumbers, and also for preparation of liqueurs and gin. In the candy industry coriander is used for preparing chewing candies that has a nice and special smelling. 
The essential oil of coriander is widely used in the perfume industry, cosmetics, liquor manufacturing and for relieve the bitterness of medications. 
 
המן שירד במדבר סיני מתואר כ"זרע גד לבן וטעמו כצפיחית בדבש" (שמות ט"ז, ל"א). לפי ריבוי המקומות שבהם נזכר הכוסבר (גד-השדה) בספרות התלמודית, יש להניח כי הצמח היה נפוץ מאוד בארץ-ישראל, וכי הרבו להשתמש בו ובזרעיו כירק וכתבלין: "כוסברתא מן מתליך עם תבלייא" (ירושלמי דמאי, א'), "כוסבר שהיא זרועה בחצר מקרטם עלה עלה ואוכל" (מעשרות, ג', ט'). בין המאכלים המשפיעים על העובר נזכר גם הכוסבר – "דאכלא כוסברתא הוו לה בני בשרני" (כתובות ס"א) – כלומר, כל האוכלת גד-השדה יהיו לה בנים שמנים ובריאים. דיוסקורידס, הרופא היווני בן המאה הראשונה לספירה, בספרו "חומרי הרפואה" מייעץ להשתמש בגד כתרופה למחלות כבד , קיבה ועיניים.
